Many of us have a collection of package ties. You know, those little plastic things that close our loaves of bread.
I was reading my monthly installment of The HandyMan magazine and an article on repurposing those little plastic helpers caught my eye and attention. For a very long time they have been accumulating in a drawer and on occasion get gathered up and pitched out. (sound familiar?) We miniaturists are the best recyclers and re-purpose'rs in the world!!!! The author of the article suggested that those little plastic gadgets be used to label our cords in outlets, power strips and I took it one step further...our hubs. All it takes is a Sharpee and the plastic gadget and a bit of your time. Following this tip will save you time in the long run. Time looking for the right cord. Time trying to figure out which USB cord goes to your ?????. And aggravation when you pull the wrong cord out of the hub. In the process of reorganizing that cord drawer....I found two that are of the Neanderthal generation of USB's....can I bring myself to discard them?????...NO...I will repurpose them. Luci |
Scales: We all work in what is known as "scale"
There are 4 common scales in dollhouse miniatures...
1" (1:12), 1/2" (1:24), 1/4" (1:48) and micro (1:144)
So what do these fractions mean?
1/12 ....1 foot in real life equals 1" inch in miniature
1/24... 1 foot in real life equals 1/2" inch in miniature
1/24.....1 foot in real life equals 1/4 inch in miniature
1/144....1 foot in real life equals 1/12 inch in miniature (rulers with measurements in 1/12" marks are rare)

Battery Holder Info:
The battery holders for our minis are a handy way to store the battery and some come with on/off switches which is very convenient.
The Clamshell battery holder (commonly referred to as coin cell holder) opens on the rounded end by prying up the two tabs and lifting up the top. Not always easy.
Once you get it open , the battery has to be lifted out of its compartment with the use of a pointed instrument (nail file, ball point pen, etc) to lift the battery out of the holder.
When installing a fresh battery it is important that the battery is inserted with the correct side facing up.
The clamshell holder has two compartments. A front and a back compartment.
If you place the battery in the front compartment do so with the negative (-) side up.
If you place the battery in the back compartment do so with the positive (+) side up.
